UPDATE: It saddened me big time that Tonkatsu By Terazawa is not operating any longer (at least in my favourite location in Cebu), but I decided to retain this blog post for writing portfolio purposes.]
Ateh Nina and I were craving for Japanese foods and we were wondering where to eat in Ayala Center Cebu. In the end, we decided to have dinner at Tonkatsu By Terazawa. It was my first time (2nd time for ‘teh Nina) here and since I was delighted with their food, I decided to talk about what we ordered – Okonomi Katsu – Pork Katsudon Set…
It was a Wednesday when we were there and only a few diners were present at that time, so I get to appreciate the restaurant’s interiors. The place is cosy and warm. It’s small though, and my initial reaction when I saw this Japanese restaurant from the outside was “why so narrow?” It was even the first time I noticed the restaurant despite frequently passing by the area (It’s beside the JCO doughnut establishment, FYI).
And oh, I shouldn’t forget that the staff were generally friendly and accommodating.
I ordered teh Nina’s favourite, the Okonomi Katsu – PORK KATSUDON SET at 395Php. It’s basically sliced deep fried pork loin on top of rice with egg and special sauce. There are also chicken variants of this dish.
The dish comes with free rice wine. It’s a hot drink that will warm your tummy.
Pork?! I wasn’t supposed to eat pork for vain reasons. I could have chosen chicken, but… I’m also not supposed to eat chicken for reasons more compelling (but still vain) than abstaining pork. Hahaha.
‘Teh Nina ordered the same dish, it’s probably the only dish she buy whenever she’s in this Jap restaurant. And I now know why. It’s delicious!
The pork is essentially well-cooked without that weird aroma of cooking oil considering that this is deep fried. I’m too particular of this because I tend to be hypersensitive to such smell.
I love the way the egg blends well with the sauce and the rice and pork. They’re just perfect for my mouth and I love savouring saucy dishes. I also loved the way we have to drizzle sesame seeds on top of the dish as if we’re using a pepper grinder.
And did I mention that the dish was a set? Aside from the free tea, the dish comes with unlimited rice, miso soup and shredded cabbage! But since the set is making me full quickly already, I can’t have any more servings of them.
Should I come back to Tonkatsu? Of course! And I’ll probably order the same thing. Haha. Unless someone treats me out to try another dish though. (wishful thinking)
